ZS Semisonic - Closing Time
This is a great music video by Semisonic which demonstartes the use of split screen really well. The two split screens start with open doors and the camera zooms in to reveal our two protagonists. This is an effective way of revealing that
there is a narrative AND performance
the narrative involves both characters
they are both somehow linked
Though there are only two screens throuhout the video, the characters in each swap sides which is cleverly done by diverting the camera away from the characters whilst they switch over. The end of the video also joins the two screens together with the car and looks really effective, almost looking like a mirror. The technique used for split screens is relatively simple and it would be possible to replicate a similar effect in our own video. However i think our music video needs a slightly shorter and more upbeat, lively feel to the song.
